Hanging with RR artist – David Grossman

This Saturday proved to be a treat – Maddie and I got to hang with Rescue Records’ very own David Grossman at the Oyster House on Saturday afternoon.  Oooh what fun we had!  David performed with his band – both covers and some of his exclusive RR material  – “It Takes Love” and “Billy Take The Long Way”.  He was also more than willing to take requests – which is always a hoot!

If you have never been to The Oyster House in Studio City, you should try to make your way there sometime.  It’s the epitomy of old school and they have a great nautical themed back patio that has a feel like you are somewhere in Topanga Canyon.  Where else can you see a great, fun live band and have .75 cent oyster  shooters  ?

David perfoms there on most Saturdays from 4-7 PM and then hustles over the canyon  evert other Saturday to Canter’s Kibbitz Room where he does a late set.  Talk about dedication!  Maybe we’ll bump into you at one or the other – I know this won’t be my last outing to see him play!

(PS – that’s me with my new friends!)

UPDATE:
Here is a great video of David playing his song “Darkness” which has been ranked #1 on Garagebands.com. Congrats David!

Save the planet: Download Our Music.

Ok…that title might be a bit of a stretch.  But I was inspired this afternoon after reading about the “PB&J Campaign” which points out–quite surprisingly–how large quantities natural resources can be saved by consuming plant based foods (Peanut Butter & Jelly being a warm and fuzzy example) just once per day, over meat, fish, eggs, or dairy products.  If you don’t believe me, go read for yourself: pbjcampaign.org/.

As much as I love Peanut Butter & Jelly (chunky peanut butter with strawberry Jam and a glass of milk, please) and the thought that it could save the world, I couldn’t help but think of the parallels between that, and our own campaign to ship less CDs and hard drives, now that we are up and running with Search & Rescue.

Thanks to you, we’ve already dramatically reduced the number of CDs we ship on a weekly basis–which helped to reduce our own carbon footprint.  It not only means we ship less from our office, but it also means we order less CDs from the libraries we represent.  So all-in-all there are less CDs that need to be duplicated, packed, and shipped, all of which greatly helps Peanut Butter and Jelly–I mean the environment.

So…have you tried Search & Rescue yet?  Register today you’ll be cruising through production music libraries in a way that will make nature thank you!  Oh, and if you’re new here–check out these other posts quick tuturial on how to search, share, and download the production music on our site.

What Kind of Music Do We Need?

So, you wanna know what we need?  You wonder what kind of music we are looking for?  It’s really interesting because depending on what we are working on our needs run the gamut.  That’s what makes things around here so fun – it’s like finding the missing puzzle piece!

Photo from Flickr User: billselak Sometimes it’s a really simple sparse piece of music we need – literally just vocals and piano or guitar.  Other times we need something that builds slowly and explodes into a great rock piece.  More often than not we find that less is more, except when it comes to female pop, which I can always use!  You have to remember that we are working with dialogue most of the time so anything that may compete will be a problem.  In the end, we are able to find something that will work 99.8% of the time.  Not a bad average…

If you would like to submit your music for consideration for addition to our catalog please contact me – I am like a good friend, always willing to listen!

We’re in Screen Magazine’s Production Music issue!

This past April at NAB I got the pleasure of meeting Robert Leach who is the editor of Screen Magazine, in Chicago.  Robert had heard about our new Search & Rescue system, and wanted to see how it was different (ehem–better) than that of other production music companies, so he stopped by our booth to check it out.  He interviewed me (I think I can safely say it was my first official interview by the “press”), and he later interviewed Cassie.

After the interview, we were shooting the breeze, and we realized that Robert and I grew up less than 4 miles away from each other, in Coon Rapids, MN of all places!  (yes that’s really the name of the town where I’m from, yes I actually moved back there a couple years ago, yes it’s probably the worst town name since Disappointment, KY) ) We played baseball at the same parks, swam at the same pools, and got happy meals at the same McDonald’s.

Check out the latest article from Screen Mag’s “Production Music” edition (or something like that) from June 9th.  Click the image to the right to be taken there.
