Fresh From The Fire! New Releases – 10/3/08

As Mark Twain once said, “There was never yet an uninteresting life…. inside of the dullest exterior there is a drama, a comedy and a tragedy.”  This week’s new releases from the Intermede Music Library run the gamut of human emotions.  Eclectic Elements III deals with the darker side of reality – tension, crime and suspenseful themes.  On the other side of the emotional spectrum are Piano Solos Vol.1 and 2 which paint the perfect backdrop for a Summer romance or an intimate candlelight dinner.  You get it all at 5 Alarm Music!  Don’t be shy, give em’ a try!

NBC’s Life is back!

I’m a huge fan of NBC’s show Life, and it’s not just because the lead guy is Winters from Band of Brothers (but that did help get me hooked in the first place).  The show centers around an LAPD detective, who was wrongly convicted of a crime, and served 12 years in prison (he was sentanced to “Life” get it?) before being proven innocent and set free.  Sound interesting?  It is!

Needless to say, as a fan/addict of the show, it’s a double bonus for me when we get placements for one of our Rescue Records artists or music libraries on the show.  We had numerous placements throughout the first season, and we have been working hard on the 2nd season too.

Here is a great clip from the beginning of the last episode of first season (got that?) featuring Rescue Records artist Alan Reid‘s song “Alarm and Trip.”

So what happens in Season 2?  Sorry–can’t tell you!  You’ll have to get your life spoilers somewhere else.  Keep up the good work Sargent Winters–I mean Detective Crews; we’ll be watching!

Looking Forward To “This Christmas” from Aretha Franklin

It was a big morning for DMI Records and 5 Alarm Music as legendary R&B star Aretha Franklin made an appearance on the Today show on location in Detroit.  Not only was she showing off her lesser known but excellent cooking skills, she also got a chance to mention her upcoming Christmas album “This Christmas” that will be exclusively in Borders October 14th! (check out the video of Aretha on the Today Show)

Aretha Franklin Times SquareAlso, if you happen to be on the east side of the country and are walking through Time Square, make sure you look up and notice the Border’s ad promoting Aretha’s album!

It’s a very cool experience, and we are very grateful for the opportunity to put out this amazing vocalist’s first ever, and long awaited Christmas album.  Our own Paola Viljanen (Director, Music Production & Operations), even got the chance to sit in on Aretha’s New York City recording session, getting the once in a lifetime chance to be witness one of the Queen of Soul in an intimate setting

Pssst!  Just like Natalie Cole’s new album, 5 Alarm Music is honored to be able to offer “This Christmas” for licensing!  For more information on licensing the master of this recording or auditioning the audio tracks, contact Cassie Lord or Maddie Madsen at 5Alarm Music 800-322-7879.

Fresh From The Fire! New Releases – 9/26/08

Bobby McFerrin once sang, “Don’t worry, be happy.”  Good advice indeed!  What’s better than spending the day letting loose and being silly?  Or lounging around and feeling those worries slip away?  The theme for this week’s new music is feeling good….and who doesn’t like that?!  If tapping your foot to light-hearted melodies or lounging to ethnic tinged electronica strikes your fancy, then you’ve come to the right place!  Don’t be shy, give em’ a try!

Make the Excitement Last Longer

It gives me great joy to post these three spots to our brag reel.  Not only because I’m a Minnesotan (and they are for the MN Lottery), but also because I think the team from Drive Thru and Colle + McVoy did a great job picking the right music tracks for these commercials.

We tried lots of different musical genres, styles, and tempos for these spots.  Everyone wanted the music to really work with the picture in a sort of tongue-in-cheek, overly dramatic way.  In the end, the creative team felt that classical music was the way to go.

In my humble opinion these came out great–and just like the commercials’ slogan ‘Make the Excitement Last Longer,’ the trial and error of dozens of attempts at finding the right production music, was well worth the final reward of getting three great spots to throw on our brag reel :)

Without further adieu…

Natalie Cole “Still Unforgettable”

Yesterday (Sept 9), 5 Alarm Music’s parent company: DMI Music–a music branding agency that connects brands with consumers using the power of music, released the highly anticipated new work from R&B legend, Natalie Cole, called “Still Unforgettable.”

Cole has achieved incredible success in her career, earning Grammy® Awards on her first album. Her 1991 duet with her late father, Nat King Cole, shot her record to the number one spot for 5 weeks, and now, decades into her career, her work is still a must-have in your personal and professional library!

This release is not only an exciting event for DMI (who are just across the parking lot from us here, in the old Pasadena Firehouse), but this will also mark Cole’s first producer credit. Having the opportunity to show off her multiple talents in the industry proves that Cole definitely is “still unforgettable.”

What’s even more exciting (for us anyway) is that we get to be the exclusive publisher for this amazing new record! Information on licensing the master (or if you’re looking to audition the tracks), contact Cassie Lord or Maddie Madsen at 5 Alarm Music 800-322-7879.
