The Art Of Vacation: New Production Music – 6/18/10

Vacation is my favorite pastime.  It’s a time when the world leaves you alone to explore and savor everything the world has to offer at a leisurely pace.  If it were up to me I’d be either dancing at a European club to some indie electro pop, laughing with the studio audience at a cheesy Italian game show or being seduced by a suave Spanish guitarist while strolling the panoramic countryside.  Lucky for me, our new releases from the Primrose Music Library have the vacation vibe covered!

PRCD187 Electroclash starts the party with enigmatic and seductive electro to ignite your desire.  The darkness in constrast with the dizzying lights on the dance floor set the mood for this electrifying and sleek collection.

Jet set over to the bright orange cocktail lounge at the hotel lobby donning your leisure suit circa 1968 with PRCD188 Italiani Paparazzi.  Be sure to read the dress code before entry: bell bottoms, butterfly collars, handlebar mustaches for gents, bee hive hair dos for dames, headbands, at least one peace sign visible at all times and beatle or go-go boots ONLY.  No exceptions.

PRCD189 Guitarra feels like a serenade from the mysteriously handsome guitar-slinger while dining on the terrace overlooking the rustic Spanish countryside.  There’s a light breeze flowing through your hair as the sun is about to set on the golden horizon line.  You savor a glass of fine Tempranillo while staring into his arresting blue eyes and don’t know which is more intoxicating…..

KCRW’s Summer Concert Series Gives Pasadena A Dose Of Cool

KCRW + Free Show + Great Bands + Old Town Pasadena = AWESOME!

Last Saturday kicked off KCRW’s Summer Nights concert series in our beloved Old Town Pasadena with a scorching performance from Hot Hot Heat (who didn’t sing along to the gargled vocals of their hit Bandages back in 03’?).  This Saturday’s performance will feature LA’s very own Everest starting at 7:30 with KCRW DJ/music supervisor Chris Douridas closing out the night.  It all happens at One Colorado which is an open seating area located off Colorado Boulevard between Fair Oaks and DeLacey Boulevard.

After your sun block starts to wear off and the BBQ is left to die out, spark off your Saturday evenings with some infectious Summer melodies!

GOOOOOOOOOOOAAAALLL! New Sports Production Music – 6/11/10

Soccer….I mean Futbol mania strikes a fever pitch now that FIFA’s World Cup has official kicked off (pun intended) in South Africa.  Since the two biggest universal uniting forces seem to be sports and music, we have the perfect pairing to get you revved up for all of the excitement that the games will bring!  Leave it up to the Zone Plus Music Library to provide the ultimate musical counterpoint for the insanity that’s going to erupt around the world this weekend.

ZONE505 The Beautiful Game captures the grit and determined aggression that goes along with kicking some butt on the field and the resulting sweet spoils of victory.  These tracks tell the stories from sweat drenched battlegrounds that separate the winners from the losers.  Can you say “highlight reel?”

ZONE506 Africa United is a spirited documentation of the vibrant South African culture.  This compilation of booty shaking tribal percussion and sweet melodies played on native instruments are just the thing to make you feel like you are front row at the games in South Africa instead of sitting on your Lazy-Boy sofa about 10,000 miles away.

Tomorrow is the big day that Team USA will defeat England (hopefully).  U-S-A!  U-S-A!

Rumors And Relaxation: New Production Music – 6/4/10

There are a few certainties in life – Death, Taxes and the Paparazzi.  Society’s voracious appetite for Drama/Gossip/Paris Hilton is as staggering as rush hour traffic on the 405 freeway!  This week’s new releases from the Boost TV music library combine the opposing notions of wild excess and tranquil relaxation.

BTV003 Flashy, Trashy & Salacious is the perfect soundtrack for those celebrity gossip shows which remind us that we really aren’t THAT screwed up.  These larger-than-life over-the-top motifs just reek of bad decisions.

BTV004 Bliss feels like those euphoric days of laying on the hammock just watching the clouds roll by.  This CD is made for the days when you just wanna shout “Calgon, take me away!” or when you’re at the spa drinking cucumber water while wearing a soft over-sized robe.

I don’t know about you but after a full day of the photographers’ flash bulbs in MY face, all I wanna do is relax by the pool behind my mansion.  It’s a tough life.

Grifters And Juveniles: New Production Music – 5/28/10

Not too far beyond the world’s largest thermometer in Baker, California lies an alluring neon oasis in the middle of the Mojave desert.  The “Whatever happens in Vegas stays in Vegas” claim is quite true, although it would be hard to prove with so many pleading the 5th!  CS027 Cool Cats from the Cue Source Music Library vamps up the larger than life stereotype of high rollin’ grifters donning fedoras and pinstripe suits.  Slick, stoic and ever classy, these tracks will swindle you out of the deed to your house faster than you can say “Blackjack.”  Just remember the house always wins!  CS028 Tween Rock shows up to the party, but ain’t old enough to drink.  These tracks are moody and rambunctious – just like the rebellious teenager who thinks you will never understand.  What these ‘Tweeners don’t realize is that we don’t change when we get older, we just find more constructive ways to blow off steam…… like going to Las Vegas.

Happiness Is……

……A Lucky Boy breakfast burrito……

…..on a Friday before a 3 day weekend.

Any Pasadena native knows that these are the best darned morning delights on the planet.  Thanks to Rescue Records artist Jordan Lindsey from The J Band for sharing with the rest of the class!

We would like to commemorate all who served in our military past and present.  Happy Memorial Day to you and yours!

My Favorite 5: Maddie Madsen

Way back in 2002, 5 Alarm Music was just a wee lad born from the minds of Cassie Lord and Maddie Madsen.  Maddie is a rare breed – a shredding musician/songwriter who is responsible enough to hold a job……and even start a company!!  That’s about as common as a living breathing Dodo bird.

Maddie’s taste in music is diverse to say the least.  She loves everything from Metal to Mahler!  So without further ado, here’s Maddie’s Favorite 5:

Weeping World – 5 Alarm Music Library (05A031 track 7)

I’m the Co-Executive Producer for the 5 Alarm Music library. This song will always have a special meaning to me because of it’s ability to transport me back to the beginning, when there were only 4 of us and also the relevance of it’s message as a song.

Wonderawe – Cinemasounds Music Library (CTM002 track 10)

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

Linda Martinez was one of the most brilliant musicians I have ever had the honor of working with. I remember sitting in the studio watching the live players performing her score for this composition after she had passed away and getting chills. The world is not the same without her.

Huggy Bear – Primrose Music Library (PRCD150 track 1)

I went through a big Electronica phase about 10 years ago and Big Beat is so much fun! This song cracks me up.

Shelter Over You – Green Vinyl Dream (Rescue Records)

Anyone who really knows me knows I’m a rocker at heart. I’ve played in 2 Progressive Metal bands in my former life. I love this band and the lyrics really speak to me.

Mahler’s 5th Symphony: Adagietto – Supraphon Music Library (SUP11-1976 track 4)

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

I grew up playing and listening to Classical music and this is one of my all time favorites. I even saw Mahler’s Fifth Symphony performed in London by the LSO. What a treat!

Doug Bossi: Out Of The Wild And Into The Spotlight

Our composers are humbling forces to all musicians.  Sometimes you hear one of their compositions and wonder where the inspiration comes from!  It’s no surprise to us that Doug Bossi, the main composer for the 1 Versatile Underscore library as well as a contributor to the 5 Alarm Music library, came away with an award at the BMI Film & Television Awards last week.

His collaboration for an original score used in the Discovery Channel’s Out Of The Wild: The Alaska Experiment was recognized by the committee for musical excellence.  Way to go, Doug!
