5 Alarm Music ♥’s Chick Flicks

Yes, it’s true.  Look out fellas, we may drag you out kicking and screaming to see The Back-up Plan starring chick flick queen Jennifer Lopez whether you like it or not!  Not only are we going to get advanced tickets for opening day (April 23rd), but this romantic comedy about love and fertility clinics also features two of our tracks as well.  Listen for Crystal Rain by the Focus Music Library and the ever sophisticated Trumpet Voluntary from the JW Media Music Library between your laughter and heartfelt tears.

When the scene pictured below was being shot next to our Pasadena office, we couldn’t help but snoop around.  The security guards totally robbed us from making our cameo appearance.  Sheesh!

A Trip Down iPod Lane: New Releases – 2/26/10

There are memories woven into every song in rotation on your iPod.   The fact that life experiences can be summoned by our favorite songs is a testament to the power of music!  This weeks’ new releases from our very own 5 Alarm Music Library evokes strong imagery upon first listen.  05A085 Sports Rock is a dose of adrenaline laden hard rock and metal perfect for action packed sports highlights on the 11 o’clock news and bone crunching enough for those “Ooohhhh!  That’s gotta hurt!” extreme sports wipe out reels.  Get pumped!  05A084 Positively Rock is a dreamy dose of optimism chock full of motivating rock anthems and soaring melodies.  It’s like putting the top down on your convertible while driving through the countryside blasting your favorite tunes (ya, I wish I owned one too!).  Like that polka dotted tie or olive green dinnerware you got at the thrift store, 05A082 Elevator Kitsch is bound to take you to another time that seems silly to us now.  How did the Bossa Nova get so cheesy?  Why do supermarkets, dentists and elevators still feature loungy Jazz with many vibraphone solos?  Ah, the mysteries of Muzak.  Take a listen and see what comes to mind!

The most appealing things in life tend to fall into one of two categories: those that are familiar and comforting or those that are unique and different.  Sometimes a quiet evening at home sweet home is just what the doctor ordered while other times a trip to new exotic lands is what you need to shake things up!  This weeks’ new releases from the Artful Recorded Music Library are a nice blend of cozy Indie Rock and extraordinary ear catching oddities.  ARTF37 The Indie Collective is like your old pair of Converse sneakers: fun and non-pretentious.  These youthful and lively anthems reminds us why Rock N’ Roll will never die!  Sometimes Weird = Wonderful.  ARTF41 Weird & Wonderful 2 strikes a balance between these two notions with interesting musical ideas in a peaceful setting resulting in pure bliss.  Cavernous beats and other worldly sound effects paint the musical pallet for ARTF44 Beat Creatures Dubstep.  Hypnotic beats and psychedelic moods carry you off into outer space.

Wake Up And Smell The Quiver!

We love our coffee.  It’s our morning companion, our afternoon tag along and sometimes an after dinner visitor.  Everyone is a connoisseur of sorts and most people even have their own personalized Starbucks order (“I’ll have a venti half caf extra hot 4 pump vanilla 2 pump hazelnut soy latte with room, please!”).

The coffee experts around here supplied International Delight with the perfect soundtrack to their national Coffee House Inspirations ad campaign.  Beautiful World from the Sonic Quiver music library is the soothing mood setter that makes you wanna skip the coffee house schlep and whip up a caramel macchiato in the comfort of your own home.  Don’t mind if I do!

We love having the opportunity to lend a helping hand to all of our favorite shows.  NBC‘s side splitting comedy The Office is definitely a favorite around here, so we all feel a little cooler knowing that our music was placed in the February 4th episode.  Dunder Mifflin, Scranton’s little paper distribution company that could, has been bought out by corporate giants Sabre.  Sabre has a wholesome corporate video featuring Christian Slater and Kathy Bates posing as the kinder gentler business regulators which also features Parry Music Library’s Planning For Tomorrow in the background.

Talk hard, Christian Slater!  (Pump Up The Volume, anyone?)

Firehouse Recording Studios’ Future Burns Bright

There’s a distinctive creative energy that emanates from the walls of a reputable recording studio.  The rooms have absorbed lots of great music and have a memory of their own.  Since making its debut on the scene seven years ago, Firehouse Recording Studios has been at the forefront of Los Angeles studios for quality and vibe.  2010 marks a new chapter in Firehouse’s bright future with the addition of Jane Scobie as studio manager.  Jane has over 20 years of experience in the music industry including 10 years as the studio manager of Royaltone Recording Studios.  I asked her a few questions so we can learn more about her and her extensive background.

Describe the moment you realized that you wanted to work in the music industry

The first time I realized that the music industry was a perfect fit for me was when I was thrown in the deep end with my first job at Posner Cox Public Relations in London handling the press liason for Emerson, Lake and Palmer who at the time were quoted as being the biggest rock band in the world.

Yes, I am a fan!  How did your early experiences in the industry bring you into the studio world?

After working on the music publishing, record label and publicity side of the industry, an opportunity to round off my experience with some recording studio chops made sense at the time.  London/England was experiencing an extremely healthy climate with bands like Pink Floyd, ELO, The Rolling Stones, Yes, Elton John and a ton of other English bands that still stand on their own even today.
