I don’t know about you, but I am a huge horror movie fan.  There’s something inherently awesome about creepy ghouls terrorizing teenage kids late at night when they are up to no good.  And their decision to follow eerie sounds outside directly in the blades of the killer is even better!  If I heard a screeching sound outside, I’d make sure all the doors were locked.  This is precisely why I would make a bad horror movie character.

OK, here’s the storyline – Tourists on a tropical island enrage the native god of the island who in turn morphs into a giant alligator to devour them.  Sounds pretty awesome to me!  OTP602 The Great Alligator is the original soundtrack to the 1979 not-so-classic Italian film “Il Fiume del Grande Caimano” and features the analog synthesizer in all of its glory.  All I have to say is, “Dear Octopus Records: Please send me this movie poster if you have one.  This movie rules!”

Production Music 101: Cassie Lord Speaks At Billboard’s Film And TV Music Conference

It is said that the concept of 5.1 surround sound started at the French cabaret Moulin Rouge in 1987.  Since then, every movie theater and home entertainment systems rely on the best sound quality available from all angles of the room to enhance visual action.  The marriage of sight and sound create a realistic interpretation of the artistic vision of the production.

The importance of quality music for productions is more apparent than ever before.  Billboard Magazine‘s annual Film and TV Music Conference bridges the gap between musicians and productions by making industry professionals available to share their knowledge.  5 Alarm Music’s General Manager Cassie Lord is gearing up to speak about the basics of production music libraries.  “Now more than ever it is important to ensure the integrity and the value of music within the industry,” says Lord.  “Great music is an essential element to any production and it’s up to composers and the industry at large to ensure its worth.”

A Twist Minus The Olive(r)

Like any good recipe, the end result is only as good as the ingredients.  When you team up big industry names like Grammy® nominated writer/producer Tena Clark, Debbie Allen (Fame), William F. Brown (The Wiz) and in-demand Nashville studio veteran Gary Prim for Twist: An American Musical, the end result is something truly special.

The storyline of Twist is inspired by Charles Dickens‘ classic novel Oliver Twist and is set in prohibition era New Orleans.  The underdog protagonist Twist (played by 10 year old Alaman Diadhiou) is an orphan on a quest for belonging in a cold cruel world.  His journey in overcoming the odds is vividly illustrated through endearing compositions written by our very own fearless leader Tena Clark and captivating choreography written by Debbie Allen.  The seasoned cast brings to life an uplifting musical that is bound to warm the heart.

Congratulations to the entire Twist team for a brilliant run at Atlanta’s Alliance Theater!  Next stop: Broadway?
